Coimbra

A Magical City

Coimbra welcomes the IX edition of the medical and scientific congress In4Med! Entirely organised by and for students, it reflects the wonder and uniqueness of our city.

On the banks of the Mondego River, Coimbra is famous for its University, the oldest in Portugal and classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. With more than 20 000 students, our University never ceases to, alongside its traditional values, grow and innovate.

But there’s much more in this city to discover and enjoy, such as the mysterious Quinta das Lágrimas, the setting of D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro’s love story, the beautiful Botanic Garden, located in the heart of our city, and the picturesque Portugal dos Pequenitos.

Coimbra is also known as the city of students, and therefor, it is the host of Queima das Fitas, an academical festivity where our University’s finalists celebrate the ending of one of the most memorable stages of their lives. It is through Fado, our traditional melody full of sorrow and saudade that not only Coimbra’s students but also whoever visits our city falls in love.
